IO/sec - what's a good number?

I'm seeing about 125 IO/sec and 38342 kb writes per sec. Currently running a storage vmotion between datastores on the same array.

Are those good numbers?

Is this 4k iops? Is the on gige? Max throughput for gige would be around 125MB per second. If you are seeing 38000k bits, I would see that as really low on gige. 40MB/sec would not be bad.

Not enough information to provide any guidance here. We would need to know about the front end (storage to server) configuration, the configuration of the storage array (number and type of disks, controller type), and need to know about the network between the servers doing the vMotion.

Hello,

How can i get this information for my current storage array.

1.What is the average random IO size   and average sequential IO size

2.What is the random / sequential IO ratio

3.What is the read/write IO ratio for the environment

4.What is the Total IO rate in IOPS per second for the environment

5.What is the Total transfer rate in Mbytes per second for the environment

Hello Yaba,

Which Compellent system do you have as you didn’t state that in your post?  Are you using DSM (Dell Storage Manager), & have you installed and enabled data collector?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
