Best Practice for Brocade switchStatusPolicySet
Hello,
I'm looking for recommendations on settings for the switchstatuspolicy. I have
DCX and DCX-4S directors, and the default values are simply to loose. Has
anyone seen any best practice settings? I am running FOS 6.4.3.
Thanks,
WS

Hi,
I am not aware of a Best practice guide for this. Bear in mind that the switchstatuspolicy is just informational, it will mark the switch MARGINAL or DOWN depending of the policy set, but the switch will keep working, no matter its status (unless it is really faulted...).

Hi,
You can set the policy depending upon your environment. For example, for me if my switch has 2 ports down the Switchstatusshow shows as switch DOWN.
I think it solely depends on how critical applications are you running and how many faults you can handle.
Thanks

Hi Will,
If you feel that the default values are too loose, then you may have a stricter policy implemented on your directors using the command, 'switchstatuspolicyset'. There is no best practice for the policy you can set, it totaly depends upon your requirement that you set these policies. However coupled with the event logs which record these status change events and email alerts you may get notified of these changes and thus you may take corrective measures to fix such a situation. Rightly said Amita, that it depends upon how fault tolerant you want your environment to be.
Hope this helps.
Abhishek.
