DELL Canada Customer Service
On 24-Jun-2013, I ordered a laptop and opted for financing. Despite excellent credit, I was asked by Dell Canada Customer Service (located in India!!!) to send a bunch of documents (including my Social Insurance Number, which the Government cautions not to provide to anybody) and when they approved the payment plan, it came with a Finance Agreement @ 19% apr , which was to be paid for the entire period even if I prepaid the amount before the end of 48 monthly installments. Paying $300 in interest for a $700 laptop was not acceptable. So I had to cancel the order. On 26-June-2013, I went ahead and ordered another laptop and paid in full using my Visa Card. I received an e-mail from Dell as follows:
| Order Delayed |
| Dear ASIF S, Failure to contact us within 1 business day may result in cancellation of your order. To expedite the handling of your call, please ensure that you have your order number(s) (see below) when calling. We apologize for any inconvenience this security step may cause. Dell is committed to providing a safe and secure shopping experience for our customers |
I called my Bank and they said that the Transaction had instantly gone through and that the payment had been made to Dell. There was NO SECURITY ISSUE, whatsoever. I found the lying behaviour of Dell despicable, disgusting and UNETHICAL. I called Dell Customer Service to cancel the order at a time when it was not "In Production". It has been more than 24 hours and they have still not cancelled this order, despite several requests to do so. All they say now is that the order is "In Production" It appears to me that Dell and its CS Team in India is plainly taking Canadian customers for granted. It is quite unfortunate that a company like Dell should not live up to its image.
