Dell rebate scam
Before I purchase the Inspiron 3640 with Optane memory in February 2019 I contacted customer service to confirm how the $100 VISA rebate worked. I was told that 25-30 days after delivery I would receive instructions via email on how to redeem the rebate. I saved a copy of the chat I had with customer service regarding the rebate process.
I never received any instructions from Dell. I waited a few extra days just to be safe. I then contacted Dell customer support who initially said they could not help me with any rebate questions. I asked to speak with the supervisor and after a lengthy discussion with the supervisor he reluctantly agreed to check. He came back and confirmed yes there was a rebate and he provided me a website link and a phone number. The website link said that the rebate program was closed. I called the phone number and the customer service rep said there was nothing she could do since the rebate program was closed. At least she had good English skills unlike the previous two calls. I asked to speak to her manager and she stated that he would tell me the same thing. I insisted that I be allowed to speak to a manger and she said that there was not a single manager in the building who was available. Yeah right. She did offer to have the manager call me back in two hours so I gave her my phone number. However, as I expected no one bothered to call me back.
What a complete and utter scam. Without the rebate I would not have made this purchase. Dell appears to have intentionally made it impossible to claim the rebate by simply failing to provide the instructions before they "closed" the rebate.
It was pretty obvious that everyone I had talked to in customer service was just reading from a script - no one was willing or interested in resolving my issue.
