Dell support scam calls?
I received multiple calls from <ADMIN NOTE: Phone number removed per privacy policy>today. I picked up the third call and a guy called Ashley claimed that my Dell laptop is sending messages to Dell about malicious software being downloaded on to my laptop. I told him to give me the tag number which he did correctly. I called from my landline to this number and it sounded like genuine Dell customer care. This number is also listed on the dell website as Home Users In Warranty customer care.
Ashley asked me "Can you turn the computer on so I can guide you through some steps?" and when I did he asked me to press Windows+ R key and enter eventvwr. He said click on Custom Views -> Administrative Events and what do you see? I said nothing, even though I saw about 14k warnings and errors. He hung up soon. Google told me that saying your machine has a problem by citing Event View errors is a well known scam.
Is this a scam? I would be very surprised if it wasn't. Can you please investigate?
I see that a similar issue was reported here.

It is a scam and our Dell Securities team is investigating. They are using our real phone number and masking their non-Dell phone numbers. We are collecting these complaints. Follow the instructions here to check your system and also to give DELL-Lorna M all the data we need to send on to our Securities team.

Once I brought up Event viewer, he told me to go to Custom View -> Administrative Events. He said what do you see? I said nothing ,even though it showed some 14k Warnings and errors. He said oh, your machine is clean then. I googled this and scaring a person showing Event Viewer errors is a well known scam.
