XPS 12 Delivery Delays?

I ordered an XPS 12 on 11/26 with an estimated delivery date of 12/14 (11 day build time).  It is now 12/11 and my order status still shows in production with a delivery estimate of 12/14 (with 7 day delivery).  I have not received anything from Dell about a new delivery date and I'm concerned about receiving this in time for XMas.  I have spoken to Customer Care and all they could tell me was what I already knew, that it was still in production and the delivery date has not been updated.  Are all orders being delayed?  Can someone from Dell provide some insight into when I can expect delivery (Order Number:

?  Thanks.

My order was placed on 11/23 and was said to arrive on 12/14. It's now been pushed back to 12/18, but I'm guessing that's just the beginning really. I'm truly disappointed to find out that this is in fact just part of Dell's tactic. They had no intention of shipping my device on time, and I can almost guarantee it won't ship by the time they say it will now. And of course, support was of no help to me. I'm a Mac person, chose to give this a try because the XPS 12 intrigued me a lot. I'm regretting it already...

I didn't spend $2,000 to have this kind of customer service. Just saying.

My exact feelings. I also ordered on 11/23 (albeit at like 1 am that morning)... with delivery date of 12/13. I have not heard anything about date being pushed back - customer support also repeating only that it is 'In Production'. Based on what happened to Brandon - I fear my date could be pushed back also. So disappointing for such a high priced purchase.

I'm also regretting this purchase a bit. Needed a new laptop badly. Was considering one of the Lenovo convertibles, but opted to pay up for XPS 12 based on strong reviews. Now of course, those other laptops are not available for a while also.

Mine was scheduled to arrive on the 12th, now saying 19th :( On the other hand ordered an Alienware m14x a week or so later that said 18th, FedEx telling they are bringing it on the 12th. Unfortunately the m14x stays wrapped till Xmas :) while the xps 12 is eagerly anticipated. Let me know if anyone hears updates.

Got a new delivery update of 12/24/2012 for my XPS.  No email as promised, just an update on the order status webpage.  Although disappointed in the delay, I'm assuming it is because the demand exceeded Dell's forecasts.  I doubt seriously that Dell purposely lied or mislead anyone.  I did a lot of research on the XPS 12 and considered a lot of other options, but concluded that the XPS 12 is the best offering out there.  Even spent an hour at a Dell Kiosk playing with it.  I read at least 20 reviews on the XPS as well as all reviews I could find on all other similar convertibles.  Apparently a lot of others did as well.  I've never owned a Dell before, and I'm the type of person that once I make up my mind, I want it now.  Waiting is painful but I was forewarned that Dell builds to order.  Personally, I'd prefer to have it built right instead of fast as this will become my main development machine.  I do think Dell could vastly improve their customer communications.  An earlier email explaining the delay would have been better received.  I'm sure they would have been slammed for it, but the alternative is that they still get slammed AND have disgruntled customers.  I'll keep my fingers crossed and give Dell the benefit of the doubt.  My attitude will change greatly if they do not keep their promise of a 12/24 delivery as they should now have all the information they need on parts delivery, workload, etc. to provide an accurate delivery date.

I forgot to mention that in addition to showing shipping info this morning, the expected delivery date was extended from 12/13 to 12/18. But I should actually get the laptop today per Fedex.

This is probably just mechanical. It was shipped on the 11th, and I chose the free ground delivery (which is 'upto 7 days'), so they just added 7 days to the delivery date. But since I live in LA area, where the shipping site is located (i.e. computer probably just off the boat from China?), my actual delivery time is overnight.

So - hopefully your updated date really means they know something about the ship date and just added 7 days to it to be safe? Hope is good.

Wow - despite the numerous stories of everyone's delays... my confidence in Dell has been redeemed somewhat. I made my post about 'no new information' late last night. But today I see an update that my computer was actually picked up by Fedex Ground yesterday afternoon. Its a local location - so I will be getting the computer today... WITHIN THE PROMISED DATE.

So there it is, thank you Dell. I'm eagerly waiting to open up my box tonight... will be a late night playing with it.

Still miffed about the subpar service (long phone waits, long Chat waits, and being bounced around to different departments, only to realize no one has any better information). But do I really expect other computer manufacturers to be better? Not sure this day and age.

I am both happy for you and jealous!  Here's to hoping my "updated" date of one week late is also bogus.  I ordered 11/26.   Back to hitting "refresh refresh" on web page :)

OK, now I'm really jealous! Great News!  Hopefully we'll get a 'Christmas Present' from Dell :emotion-2:

According to my page, it has been updated again, and mine has shipped and will be here tomorrow.

Hm. Interesting. I'll have it by the time I needed it, if it goes well. :)

Thanks, Dell. You may have restored a little faith in yourself.

Hmm not sure what to think.

Ordered on Nov 26th, said it was supposed to be here on the  Dec12th, next day delivery.

I called Customer Service on the 11th, when I didn't get a tracking number, guy told me definitely not going to make it on the 12th despite the systems all saying the 12th, no known delays, but if I haven't heard about a tracking #,  the order "has a problematic", and I should wait to hear when they figure out where the order is, and when it will ship out, don't call us, we'll call you.  I asked to speak to his manager, who said that system shows no delays therefore it will definitely arrive on the 12th.

On the 12th, the website updated to say 19th.  Still says 19th, but just got an email saying 24th.

I likely won't be around then to sign for it, and they said  I can't change the shipping info to where I will be then because I may be some hacker rather than the original orderer.

And I have no faith that it will even be the 24th.  The support forums seem to have lots of reports of the XPS touchscreens becoming unresponsive, and Dell Engineering is looking at the problem.    I'm not sure why it's so hard to know exactly what the delay is.

I'm tired of being jerked around and am tempted to cancel, the website says "January 18" for new orders.

Not sure what to do.

Ok, now I'm getting a little nervous.  I also ordered on Nov. 26th, 7 day delivery with a delivery date of 12/14.  My 'New' delivery date is also 12/24.  You have next day delivery and I have 7 day delivery.  My 'ray of hope' is that 12/24 is a "No Later Than" date.

If there truly is a problem with the screen, or anything else, I hope they would let us know why we are being delayed.  I have no problem waiting longer if it means I'll get a better, more reliable product.  I need my XPS 12 to last a while.

WOW!  I just got an email from Dell saying my XPS 12 has shipped, 3-5 day delivery!  Sooooo Excited!!!!!

Going back in my emails, it looks like Dell sends out notices around 5:30 PM EST (US).  I know I checked the delivery status 4-5 times a day....(still shows 'In Production').  Dell, you made me a happy camper !!!

Do you mind if I ask which configuration of the XPS12 you got?

I ordered on 11/25 and have been told anywhere between December 21st and January 18th for when I can be expecting my laptop.  They have confirmed twice that the new date is 12/24 which really doesn't help me as I had a long trip planned leaving the 20th and hoped to spend that time learning my new Dell.

I ordered the i7, 8GB, 256SSD unit.  I told them as long as I had it in my hands by the 20th, I wouldn't be badmouthing them.  I have a much longer, detailed version of my experiences with their "Customer Care" that I'll go into later if I don't receive it in time.
