Equalogic PS6100 Firmare Vmware compatiblitiy question

Good afternoon,

In the past we'd always run the firmware upgrades against support to make sure it was recommended to run on this SAN with our current version of firmware.

We are running firmware PS6100 v7.1.9 (R417729) with VMware 6 ESXi hosts 6.0.0 (4510822)

What version can we safely go to next for the firmware?  I see the versions for the PS6100 go all the way up to 10.x now.

Given recent security updates we'll also be moving our VMware versions sooner than later.

Any recommendations on what version of firmware we can go to next that would be recommended and is known to be stable with our VMware version?

Thank you!

Thank you Sam.  Is there a document that suggests the version steps to take to get from the version 7.1.9 that we are on to 10.1 version?

In other words can we go straight to 10.1 from 7.1.9 or should we go for example to an 8, then a 9 and finally 10.1?

Hello ClimbGuy,

You can use up to 10.1 for all ESX versions 5.5, 6.0 & 6.5. Currently we are not recommending the use of 6.7 at this time.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello ClimbGuy,

You will have to step the firmware.  You will want to go to the following steps: 7.1.14 to 8.1.13, 8.1.13 to 9.1.7, & 9.1.7 to 10.0.1.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Is there a download link I can use to get v7.1.14 and 8.1.13 - or maybe I'm just overlooking it?

Also is there something I need to do to be authorized to download the firmware?  It's telling me I'm unauthorized?  I haven't had that trouble in the past?

Thank you.

Without a valid support contract youre not allowed to download and install the software.

I never understood why a customer is not allowed to download the software which was the current one in the same time its support contract runs out.  Think about of a reinstallation of SANHQ.  Other company take care of that.....

Joerg

Are you saying if I install SAN HQ then I can apply the firmware updates I need that way?

Hello ClimbGuy,

As Joerg stated without a valid support contract you can’t get newer version of firmware and SanHQ.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
