PERC 310 Add drives to RAID 10 to extend volume without losing data
I set up a RAID 10 volume with 4x500GB drives. I need to increase the size by adding 2 more identical drives. Is it possible to do this without losing the data? If so, can I do it from Windows, or do I need to do it from BIOS? If from BIOS, when Windows restarts, does it see the extra space, or do I need to do something to then extend it?
Windows is installed on a RAID 1 volume on 2x 320GB drives on the same controller, so the RAID 10 volume is just data (SQL Server data files).

The PERC series doesn't support expanding a raid 10 (or 50 or 60) with additional drives.

Hello Dave,
As Dev Mgr has stated in his post you can’t extend a virtual disk that is at a raid 10. What you will need to do is to get a backup of the data first then once it is backed up then you will need to destroy the virtual disk & then recreate it & restore your data to the virtual disk.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
