Adding fibre channel Data Domain storage server to Netbackup
Hi,
I've just enabled one of my Netbackup 7.5.0.6 media servers (Win 2003 R2 x64) for ddboost over fc. Up till now all comms with Data Domain have been over the lan.
My local data domain box is called BASDD002 and the fc name is DFC-BASDD002. The single LSU is called MBFS_BAS. This has previously been added to Netbackup as disk pool MBFS_BAS and disk volume MBFS_BAS (yes, same name, don't blame me I didn't set it up).
To incorporate the new DFC-BASDD002 into Netbackup using the admin gui I've run the Disk Pool Configuration wizard from Media and Device Management / Devices / Disk Pools. It prompts to 'Select the type of disk pool to create' and I've only got the one option: OpenStorage (Data Domain).
'Select Storage server' shows my local Data Domain BASDD002 and the new 'DFC-BASDD002' (which is the same Data Domain appliance but for FC). So I select DFC-BASDD002.
Then the 'Select Disk Pool Properties and Volumes' window appears prompting me to add a disk volume. The only disk volume for me to choose is the existing MBFS_BAS:
I assume this is the MBFS_BAS LSU that exists on Data Domain:
Can I add this existing 'disk volume' to the new disk pool I'm creating in Netbackup for DFC-BASDD002? It is already assigned as part of the existing Netbackup disk pool MBFS_BAS into which all my Netbackup storage units have been created. Can it exist in two different Netbackup disk pools at once?
I assume that if I can't then I'll need to create a new LSU on the Data Domain box and add this to DFC-BASDD002 in the Disk Pool wizard. Does that mean that I can't share the storage units that Netbackup currently writes to between fibre channel and LAN backups? Don't necessarily want to be able to use both to write to the same storage unit, but I have a number of existing storage units, some of which I was hoping to switch to fibre channel writes.
Is it the case that for DFC-BASDD002 I'll need a new LSU on Data Domain, a new disk pool and volume in Netbackup with new storage units, and all fibre-writes will have to be to those storage units only?
Thanks
