DDBoost 3.2 on DataDomain with OS 6.0??

Hi all,

can DDBoost 3.2 be used in conjunction with a DataDomain with OS 6.0?

This request depends on the fact that a customer would like to use current NetBackup environment (7.6.1.2) with his new DD with OS6.0, and NetBackup 7.6.1.2 only supports DDBoost 3.2.

If this is not possible, can a DD be downgraded to a supported OS and which one? 5.7?

Sorry but I cannot have access to CompGuideApp... I'm new to the Community and it seems that this site is only accessible as an internal user or customer and I'm only a Consultant for this customer.

Many thanks,

Fabio

NBU 7.7 is needed for DDOS6 though by looking at compatibility list I see references by both for ddboost 3.2 which might indicate that it is only the combo that has been tested that way.  You can't downgrade DDOS, but you can update NB.

Thanks for your reply! Customer cannot upgrade at least for three months its NBU environment.

In NetBackup Software Compatibility Matrix I can see specific mention to the support of the plugin version, not for the DD OS... For this reason I asked to understand if DD Boost plugin 3.2 is supported on DD OS 6.0...

So if we need to maintain also compatibility between DD OS and NBU, this means that NBU upgrade is mandatory...is this correct or do we have any way to have a supported combination of NBU 7.6.1.2 - DD OS 6.0 - DD Boost 3.2? Maybe a Support Exception from EMC?

Many thanks a gain to you and to all DD experts in the Community!

Regards,

Fabio

Hrvoje Crvelin is correct.  NB with DDOS 6 has been certified with NB version 7.7x and up.  The compatibility matrix is critical when dealing with DDBoost.  Below is a section of the compatibility matrix.  Upgrading NB so that you can work wing DDOS 6.0 is the only real option.

Note ID Note Description

GN095

EMC/Data Domain does not test all IBM POWER-based server models and relies on the IBM AIX 5L Version 5 binary compatibility statement; see http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/aix/compatibility/index.html for more information.

GN100

The following EMC PowerPath configurations support coexistence with DD Boost over FC: PowerPath v6.0 or greater on Windows. Customers with PowerPath versions below those listed must upgrade to a supported version. It is not necessary to submit an RPQ. Customers with platforms not listed must submit an RPQ.

GN119

Support for any version of NBU on DD OS 5.2 with DD Boost 2.5 does not include virtual synthetics, Automatic Image Replication (AIR), or Accelerator. Note these additional points: (1) n Virtual synthetics support in NBU requires DD OS 5.4 or later; (2) AIR support in NBU (7.6 or later) requires DD OS 5.4 or later; (3) Accelerator support in NBU (7.6 or later) requires DD OS 5.4 or later.

GN120

NBU versions 7.0.x, 7.1.x, and 7.5.x require the 64-bit OST plug-in, except on Windows 2003. On Windows 2003, the 32-bit OST plug-in must be used on a 32-bit NBU installation and the 64- bit OST plug-in must be used on a 64-bit NBU installation.

GN121

Encrypted managed file replication (optimized duplication) is supported with NBU and requires DD OS 5.0 or later on both source and destination Data Domain systems.

GN122

Data Domain Extended Retention software option is supported with NBU and requires OST plug-in 2.3.1 or later.

GN123

The use of virtual synthetics together with the Data Domain Extended software option requires DD OS 5.3.x and DD Boost 2.6.x or later.

GN124

Backups over WAN are supported under a request for product qualification (RPQ).

GN126

Note these NBU 7.6 compatibility details: (1) Supports the NBU VM Accelerator feature with DD OS 5.4.3.x or later; (2) Supports the NBU AIR feature to Data Domain systems where the DD Boost 2.6 plug-in or later is installed; (3) HPUX 11.23 on the PA-RISC architecture supports the media server or client only.

GN127

Client-side encryption from NBU to a Data Domain system is not supported.

X003

Supports the NBU VM Accelerator feautre with DD OS 5.4.3.x or later.
