Data Domain CIFS share configuration best practice for Symantec Enterprise Vault ?

Hi People,

I'm looking for any recommendation and the best practice for implementing the CIFS share storage for Symantec Enterprise Vault.

if anyone know or have the link for EMC Data Domain, can you please share it here ?

So far I can only found the EMC Centerra http://www.emc.com/collateral/hardware/white-papers/h6790-symantec-enterprise-vault-centera-wp.pdf, it is not applicable to my case here.

Thanks.

Hello System Engineer.

So basically you want to store the Enterprise Vault partitions on DataDomain

Some recommendations:

1) Ensure that the Sesstimeout and the ServersWithExtendedSessTimeout registry keys are in place

https://support.emc.com/kb/182182

2) Ensure that you create one or more separate mtrees for the Enterprise Vault partitions and create shares pointing to those mtrees. Try to create separate mtree for each Enterprise Vault Partition if possible.

3) Ensure that cab files (Enterprise Vault Collections)  are created in the partitions, as the number of files per directory reduces the CIFS performance.

Kind Regards,

Gonzalo

As at the moment I have approximately 8 TB or Enterprise Vault store data in the block RDM LUN presented to the VMware Virtual machine as NTFS drive.

How many drives should I need to hold the Enterprise Vault drive on each of the CIFS share ?

Thanks Gonzalo,

I've never implemented the CIFS share before with Symantec Enterprise Vault software before so yes, your input above is greatly appreciated.

Is there any CIFS share size limitation or can I provision 3 TB for the open EV VaultStore ?

Hey System Engineer

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Quite busy lately.

Size is not a limitation here. It is more the Data Structure that could be a limitation.

This is an extract of the CIFS and Data Domain Systems Technical Notes:

System Error

Limit the number of files, including directories, in a directory to 1000. Any more than this

can lead to undesired behavior from the application's perspective, for example, timeouts

and operational failures.

What version of Enterprise Vault are you using? In the latest versions of Enterprise Vault, the partition is based on the the fingerprint.

Ensure to implement Partition Rollover

You also have an integration guide here:

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply Murillo,

I'm using EV 9.0.4 and planning to upgrade to EV 10.0.4 CHF3. I will need to do the CIFS share migration before migrating it.
