Dynamic Interface Group configuration.
Hi,
We have a clients Data Domain with a Dynamic Interface Group set up but currently they seem to be pointing most of their backup traffic at the management port. I am going to get them to change this but have a quick question about these Dynamic Groups.
What our client has is 4 IP's allocated on 4 interfaces but bit confused as to how the client should use these?
Group-name Status Interface Clients Replication
---------- ------- --------- ------- -----------
default enabled 4 1 0
---------- ------- --------- ------- -----------
Group-name Status Interfaces
---------- ------- ---------------
default enabled 163.160.101.222
default enabled 163.160.101.223
default enabled 163.160.101.224
default enabled 163.160.101.225
---------- ------- ---------------
Group-name Status DD Boost Clients
---------- ------- ----------------
default enabled *
---------- ------- ----------------
No replication mtrees with remote hosts in ifgroup
File replication is allowed on ifgroup.
Client may use any interface.
Would you expect clients to be configured to point to just one of the IPs? Should there be a virtual IP that all clients use and from there they are instructed which physical interface to use?
If anyone could just clarify the situation and best way to use these it would be appreciated.

Thanks Andrew.
I think the best birth is for you to remove management IP/interface from the IFGROUP provided the only 1 client is in the same subnet the three remaining interface in the IFGROUP. I also believe since it is just one client configured ,the management interface is being choosen being part of the IFGROUP,so if you could add an additional client to see which interface the data traffic goes too but since you have only 1 client I advise you remove the management interface from the group and test backup traffic will any of the three.
Best practice for your configuration requires at least 4 clients to see the traffic is load balanced across the 4 interfaces in the IFGROUP
