SQL Server Backups: Data Domain vs. Compression
We are currently generating backups for our Microsoft SQL Server databases to a set of Data Domain managed fileshares.
In general, using SQL Server's backup compression during backup / restore operations are typically much more performant than otherwise. However, are there any best practices or documented reasons that would suggest that we should NOT use SQL Server's native compression for these type of operations?
Thanks!

Any client side compression adds up to less optimal de-dupe ratio. At the end of the day, you should measure if this approach contributes to less, same or more space usage on DD.
