Sizing to be considered for Data Domain
Hi Guys,
How should we consider the sizing while doing the calculations for Data domain.
Should we take the actual size of the VMs or should we consider the entire VMDK file size.

Depends on backup software, image or client, type of VMs, and Kernel. The safe way to calculate is 50% of allocated space for first backup, and then change rate for every other retained copy.
But as the number of VM's get's higher, the dedup rate actually goes up on the data domain. Your local SE should have access to solution builder and be able to get to a sizing in minutes. If not, post some info about numbers, TB by type of server (DB, Web, NAS) and I can run you a sizing.
