Using DPA to alert on long running groups
We use DPA for reporting on our EMC Networker based backups, I need help to create either an analysis or a Report, to report "only" the savegroups that are still in progress after x number of hours.
It can either be an alert from analysis or a scheduled report. any ideas ?

Hi GoEagles,
I think you can use the scheduled report (Active Job Distribution) report which shows how many jobs were in progress or the total number of sessions that are active over time.
Hope this helps you.

Tested that report but it reports all active jobs during the window while I am looking for jobs active even after x hours (let's say 24 hours).
Thanks

Hi GoEagles,
The report you are asking for i did not see it before and i believe it doesnt exists, but to double check you can open a service request to EMC or a live chat with query about that report. For sure that can help you more than me and if it doesnt exists, you will get a confirmation with that.
I will be waiting your updates.
Thanks,
Ahmed Bahaa

Hi GoEagles,
Have you been able to create such a report?
We also would need the same information.
Thanks and regards,

There is one and its tucked away its called running jobs.. and its used by the Analysis engine to trigger jobs that have been running for > x hours. Take a look at the analysis reports and its listed there.
but for NBU its useless until 5.8.2 I am in the process of upgrading to 5.8.2 and will try it again,

1. Start up DPA
2. Select Tool -> Report Editor (Displays the Report Editor dailog)
3. File Open and type in the Find field Backup running. One of the report items returned is "Backup Running Jobs"
This is the source report used in the "backup overrunning ruleset" used by the Backup Running for > 18 hours analysis alert.
3. Open the report, To use the report create a copy and add it to a menu ( for obvious reasons it not visible in the Default Data Protection report offerings probably, because of the warning below!.
So whats the difference between Active Job reports and Backup running report. Backup Running uses a point in time window and gets all backup jobs that are queued, started against a selected node rather than a window based report filtered by queue time. To this end always use a NOW time window specifier to get a list of 'current' jobs.
It uses the Backup Job Status data source.
NOTE of WARNING
DPA was not very good a tracking Netbackup active jobs and sometimes forgets that a job is no longer active. . I think this is still an issue with TSM ( check the release notes). This manifests itself in this report. So if you run a report against a master server expecting a list of 5 active jobs you may get a list of 100.To resolve this issue update everything to 5.8.2 clear the pfile files and log a call to EMC. You will have some databse work to do, it seems to affect the backupevent table.

Thanks PerkyPat for detailed reply.
Yes, even i am encountering the same issue of DPA listing 100+ active jobs rather than actuaal 3-4 active jobs. Offcourse, the report contains actual active jobs along with hundreds of previous queued jobs which have been completed. The DPA version in our environment is 5.8.0. I will check on upgrading the version.
Thanks for your suggestion. Also, the Backup running Savesets doesnt give JOB ID. Is there any way to get that?

Thank you Andy for reply.
The report Backup All Long running Savests lists the jobs that have ran more than X hours and completed. But, I am looking for active or queued jobs list. Also, i am finding issue with running Backup All Long running Savests as selection server names is greyed out and report is not running.
