What does Stage for next reboot mean?
Howdy,
When doing the Firmware/Bios updates, there's a box that says: Stage for next server reboot. Can anyone tell me exactly what that box does? Does it do the install right away but just postpones the reboot until later? Or does it just copy the files but doesn't actually do the install until the reboot?
With OMEssentials we could set the install to go now but just Not Check the box that said Allow Reboots. That way all the time to do the install would be done now and just the reboot steps would go later. What exactly will happen at the next reboot if I use the Stage option in OMEnt?
Thanks,

Hi,
I did spoke to the OME experts on this, and your thought were the same as mine. Apparently the firmware contents are uploaded into LCC for the updates. So therefore, once the server reboots, LCC does the updates and it's just a long reboot, like you mentioned.

Hi,
The check box Stage for next server reboot makes the firmware kicks in the installation after the server reboots. Therefore the installation will start after the server reboots.

And if what's being installed requires a reboot, does it reboot, then do the install, then reboot again? Or does it to the install in the pre-boot environment so it's just one really long reboot?
Thanks.
