DSM Essentials Network Monitor service terminating unexpectedly
Hi,
We're trying to troubleshoot some connection status issues we're having with OME and in the Event Viewer on the OME server I see a lot of entries stating that the DSM Essentials Network Monitor service has terminated unexpectedly and will be restarted.
What is usually the cause of this error? The service restarts without a problem, but in the five minutes it takes before it restarts we're seeing a lot of erroneous "system down" reports from OME.
Thanks.

Hi,
Network Manager service should not go down at all. It is not expected. Can you check in the OME console that during which task is the network manager service going down? Is there a scheduled status poll or discovery or inventory running?

There is no correlation between OME doing scheduled tasks and the service terminating unexpectedly. The termination occurs at seemingly random times. For example, today the service stopped at around 7am this morning. There are no tasks that run in OME at that time.

Hi,
Thanks for the post. Do you see any events in OME console at the time of service crash?
Do you have any alert actions configured in OME? like e-mail alert, trap forwarding ?
Thanks,
Arun

Yes, please let us know if there are any events and can you check if any dump file with a .dmp extension is created under bin folder where OME is installed?

I'm not sure what you mean by "events". There are no errors in the OME console, but Event Viewer shows the service terminating and restarting after 5 minutes. Yes there are dump files.
If I'm watching OME at the time of the service termination, I get an error message, but that's it.

Sorry for not being clear. Events mean alerts. What we want to know is are you getting any alerts when the service crashes?

We do not receive alerts when the service crashes other than the immediate flashing red icon if we happen to be looking at OME when it happens.

Hi,
We need to see what is causing the service to crash. I see that you are using OME v1.3. Although that should not be a problem, but the version 2.0.1 is out. If you want to give it a shot, then you can try installing OME 2.0.1 and see if that solves your problem. There had been changes to make OME more stable in OME 2.0.1. Make sure to keep a backup of the database before you try upgrading to OME 2.0.1.
Else, we will need you to log a troubleticket @ 800-945-3355 so that the logs can be looked upon.
