OME 2.0 not generating email alerts
I was previously using OME 1.1.1 and at some point stopped receiving email notifications for specific issues. I knew this was the case because a server had a bad PERC battery, but we never received a notification. I proceeded to send test warning alerts using the temperature threshold in OMSA, but none of those came through either.
Since OME 2.0 came out I decided to build a new server and set up the latest version. Unfortunately, I'm still not receiving email notifications for when something on a server actually occurs (i.e. temperature threshold change).
I will say that I've received alerts for when a server's general status changes from green to warning, but that's it. Those alerts were only generated as I was adding servers to the new OME 2.0 instance. I believe the green to warning emails are due to the PERC firmware or driver being out of date on the warning servers. Unfortunately, I never received alerts specifically about firmware/driver version being out of date like I did before. I've tried sending temp threshold warning alerts for OME 2.0 from multiple servers and I never receive an email.
Lastly, I do receive the test emails when generated from with the Alert Action.
Thanks,
Jason

Yes, that was configured for some time in my v1.1.1 instance and it is configured in my v2.0 instance. As I stated before, that is where I am sending test emails from, which I do receive.
This issue *seems* to only be limited to when something on a server malfunctions. General state changes (i.e. green to warning) do successfully generate an email alert.

Did you configure the "Alert Email Action"? I also use OME 2.0 and am able to get alerts.

You may need to check your configuration. The next few steps are "severity" , "Category and sources association". It is a long list. Make sure you choose the desired event.

To make sure I the configuration of my alert is set up correctly, I checked all boxes in all sections and still no email alerts.

Also,
Some folks will enable logging on the SMTP preferences area. Just be sure to turn it off when you are done debugging. These logs often show what's up when you are having issues sending email.
Thanks,
Rob

I have SMTP logging set to Everything and I do not see anything with regard to SMTP errors or warnings in the UI or Application Logs.

Really...ah, that is surprising....this is pretty verbose logging that shows, for example, all the exchange server traffic and any errors on that side. Always (almost) very helpful.
Looks like we need a ticket to review the setup (800-945-3355).

I also noticed that even though I change the temp threshold, the general status of the server in OME doesn't change automatically. I have to rerun the discovery/inventory for it to change. Then and only then do I receive an alert.
BUT, the alert I receive is the general status change of the server NOT the temperature threshold warning.

Rob,
I just called Dell Support at the number you gave me and they said I can only get general questions answered if I do not have a ProSupport contract. They wanted a Service Tag for the machine it is running on, but it is on a blade in a cluster so I don't really have a service tag at hand and the VM floats across blades depending on load.
What do you suggest I do at this point?
Thanks,
Jason

Hi,
I know this thread has been going on for long but for the basic questions,
Are you trying to send alert from OMSA or iDRAC?

Hi Jason,
With OME, there is a Dell troubleshooting tool. In the miscellaneous or advanced part of it, you will find an option check if the alerts are reaching OME server. I do not have an OME server with me to give you the exact steps, but if you launc troubleshooting tool, there is something called netsnmplistener. If you start the listener and send alerts, (not test alerts), some server malfunction alerts from the server to OME, then it will show in the command line if you receive the alert, Can you check this and let us know if you are receiving the alert?

Hey Pupul,
I generated a temperature warning while the NetSNMP Trap Listener is running and it did not receive any traps.
I sent a temperature alert from two servers.
Thanks,
Jason

I confirmed that the ports on both the OME and the monitored server side are open.
In the SNMP Service on the monitored server, the OME server is specified as one of the trap destinations.
I am changing the temperature threshold via OMSA.
Thanks,
Jason

It means the problem is on the server side and not OME side. We will need to figure out what is wrong with the environment configuration or what is missing. I think posts on forum will not be helpful to do this. You have already talked to the support guys, i would suggest to get the service tag of one of your servers and then try again. They should be able to help you. You can get the service tag for any of your servers from OME only.

I contacted Dell Support and we got it straightened out.
We made sure the SNMP Trap port 162 inbound was open on the OME server and we restarted the OME services.
I am not receive SNMP alerts for everything.
Thank you for the assistance,
Jason
