OME failing to do simple updates
Hello,
An M605 is reported in the non-compliant section of System Update.
When attaempting an update, the 2 required packages arwe reported as downloaded, but the task then fails due to a "Unable to access the specified share on the remote system" message.
I am running the task as Domain Admin. Nothing wrong with the account.
I even rebooted both the OME machine and the remote box needing the update, just to make sure they were "clean".
What could be causing this? (Firewalls are not an issue in this case).
Other boxes are having the same problem.
Thx,
John Bradshaw

Hi John,
Yes, we've seen this a few times. Take a look at the thread below along with the resolution in that particular case. Let me know if it looks relevant.

Resolution, see post at Wed, Mar 28 2012 8:40 AM

Well here's one for the books.
If i do a range network scan, then i have heaps of issues and noting seems to get updated.
But if a single ip address is scanned (which is also in the range above) and discovered with wmi, the updates flow freely to that box.
I'm no rocket scientist, so can anyone shed light on what might be causing that?
Cheers,
John Bradshaw

Also, I notice that even when different credentials are placed in the box to run the update, (in the TASK Execution History box), it say the task is executed by ...and it is always the name of the person logged in to the server running OME, not the credntials of the person under whose authority the task is running.
thx,

John,
Oftentimes folks will try to just put in a big range....some devices work, some don't. This is usually attributed to the fact that the managed nodes may not all be set up the same way. So that may be why _one_ server seems to act ok.
What protocols are you using in your discovery range? SNMP, WMI?
When you run the Dell Troubleshooting tool (installed on your OME desktop) using the SNMP test, what is listed in the result set of that tool? Be precise please.
thanks!

Hi John,
Thanks for the information. I see how this can get confusing. We are saying the person who is logged in is executing the task but the credentials provided are being used for execution. These credentials provided in the task wizard are not stored for security reasons so that only a person with valid credentials on the target can perform the operations in the task as those can be write operations.
We will take a look if we can show the provided username in the executed by field.
Regards
Abhijit

Right :-)
The plan is that our upgrades will preserve your discovery ranges...and other things.
keep me posted.

Thx Rob.....yes, I'm going to remove all entries and place them in individually (there are a LOT).
I just hope when an upgrade comes that it doesn't wipe the DB! :)

Seems like I needed to disable Symantec on the OME server.
