Staged firmware updates from OME
Hi,
I need to update one of my server's NIC firmware, but the Dell firmware update page recommends we install a previous firmware first. Is this possible via OME (updating via OMSA)? When I go into Non-Compliant Systems it only shows the most recent firmware update to install.
Thanks.
Regards, Dominic

Thanks for the question. Can you go into the advanced settings and enable downgrades to see if they will show up?
Thanks,
Rob

I've enabled downgrades and re-inventoried the server but System Update/Non-compliant systems only shows the most recent updates for that server. Is there another step I'm missing?

Yes. I need to update the Broadcom NetExtreme II Gigabit Ethernet firmware to version 7.10.18 but need to first update to 7.8.53.
I have the latest catalog 5G2Y2.

Hi,
Is there a specific firmware version you need to install? We will need to know if that update package is carried in FTP or not.
Can you also confirm the catalog version which you have? it will to figure out if the update package is carried in the catalog or not.
Another way to do it would be to have a local repository manager with the required update package.

Okay, so the catalog does carry this firmware. Now can you confirm the model of the server as in R620, R720, etc?
Also, is this OME 2.0 or OME 1.3?
And, do you have connectivity to internet on the OME machine?

The server is an R810. It's OME 1.3. Yes the server running OME has internet access.

Hi again. Do you need any more information to answer my question? I'd really like to be able to update this firmware using OME and OMSA.

I called Tech Support. They said that you can't update to a less-than-most-recent version using System Update but you can use a remote deployment task to apply the Windows DUP via OME and OMSA.

Hi,
I was not in office with no email access so reply got delayed. It is true, OME will show you the latest update possible if there were multiple packages in the catalog, This was designed to make sure the latest firmware is present on the catalog without multiple updates.
For specific problem like this, where you need to upgrade to a firmware version before you can update furtther, you can use the repository manager with only that DUP and then you can push that firmware through OME to all the servers. You will need to point OME, to the catalog which gets created when you use repository manager.
