It may be the "Metoulius Vendor-Defined Device" (the e-button); the driver is on the Applications CD, \apps\DSC\Support\Metdvr; the driver can be installed independently of the Dell Solution Center. It will automatically be installed if you install the Solution Center, but rather than install the Solution Center from the CD, I would recommend downloading the most recent version at Dell Downloads. Also, even if you install the driver, the e-button (below the on/off switch on your computer) is useless unless you also install Solution Center, since its only function (as far as I have been able to determine) is to open the Solution Center.
roonbizkit,
Considering he hasn't posted anything else to this thread in nearly twenty months, I think it's safe to assume that Dr. Dre corrected the problem by installing the e-support button driver.
I want to take this public opportunity to thank you for posting something that I searched HOURS for under dells download page. The Tech Support community at Dell should be aware that many users are more than a little computer literate and when upgrades occur, as in my case, I completely wiped my hard disk for a fresh install of Windows XP, from the delivered version of ME. Being that I am computer savvy, I did not re-install the solution center and it drove me BATTY having the little exclamation point on my Device Manager. It literally took me hours upon hours to figure out what that ACPI complaint system that the device manager was refering to, was the little E button (Which I never even knew was there until reading wsnyders post). Thank you for taking the time to post that answer to several threads that I have come across.
To Dell Tech Support,
In my humble (consumer who had two Dell's) opinion, when I sign in to support with my service tag, and I select a different operating system than what the computer was delivered with, you should address this problem as a PATCH. I should not have to install the solution center to have all of my hardware recognized. You should make it a little easier for your Power Users to upgrade their systems. Any self respecting computer geek that I know of will not sleep until the device manager is free of yellow icons!!
Thanks again wsnyder, I can keep the rest of my hair now.
