AGP 1.0, 2.0, 3.0?

Hi,

I know that AGP 1.0 = AGP 1x/2x, AGP 2.0 = AGP 1x/2x/4x, and that AGP 3.0 = 1x/2x/4x/8x.  Will an AGP 2.0 card work on my Dell XPS T600r?  Thanks in advance for your help.

PS~ Yeah, I know this is a pretty stupid question.  I always get confused on AGP 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0  I was going to test out my AGP 2.0 card on my Dell, but decided not to (didn't want to damage the card or my Dell).  Do you know what would have happened if I did?

Yes. Some AGP 3.0 cards will not, however.

No harm done if you tried it. If the vid card is incompatible with your motherboard, it either physically won't fit (like the Radeon 9600) or just won't light up your monitor.

Yes, all AGP 2.0 cards should work in your Dell XPS T600r. The GeForce 4 Ti series definately work with the XPS T. As for AGP 3.0 cards, some cards work, some cards do not. The ATi Radeon 9700/9800 series definately do work in XPS R/T machines (as seen from Ace's Hardware's 3DMark2003 article, as well as user feedback around here). The only AGP 3.0 card that I've heard that doesn't work with the XPS R/T models is the ATi Radeon 9600 series, but that was feedback from one user - haven't heard anything else with the 9600 + XPS T combo.
