ASUS HD 6450 Video card in the Dell XPS 430
I have a 430 with 6G of ram, running Vista 64.
MY old video card thought a blank screen looks great, so I went out and purchased the ASUS HD 6450 Graphics card, with 2GB of RAM.
i've tried the enclosed drivers, and the ones on their web site, and while the ATI Catalyst program seems to properly install the driver, it clearly doesn't exist on the computer... the device driver list shows that the only driver is the "MIcrosoft VGA" driver from 2006. Needless to say, the screen graphics are quite poor.
Am I limited to using a Dell driver here, and if so, where can I find one?

I personally have a HD6450 card on my PC. A good card for low-mid fps gaming.
Asus unfortunately does not have drivers for Windows Vista. Refer to http://bit.ly/2rgIr0Z for list of supported operating systems. You may attempt to install the Windows 7 driver in compatibility mode for Windows Vista, however, I cannot assure this would work.

Kind thanks for your response.
I would take issue however, as the ASUS page indicates that it has drivers for several operating systems, including Vista64. Would this not be the correct one to use?
The bigger issue however is that the motherboard doesn't seem to properly recognize the graphics board. In the system information area, it simply says: Standard VGA board. I don't think that's correct.

Standard VGA is all you get until the drivers for that specific card are installed.
HD5000 HD6000 HD7000 HD8000 series are legacy and VISTA is EOL EOS. Catalyst 13.12

This means You must manually load the legacy driver because the latest and greatest driver DOES NOT INSTALL and WILL NEVER INSTALL.

Thank you for your suggestion...
I started with the Vista 64 bit driver install.... was doing great until it hit a brick wall about 2/3 way through. Won't tell me what went wrong, only that installation failed. Happened two times.
I will see if there is a tech support person at AMD who might have a suggestion.
Just wondering if I return this board, and get one a bit less complicated, if things will work better.

AMD is not forthcoming about Catalyst Control Manager crashing.
The Scenario is the same for Vista SP2 or WIN7 or WIN8 or WIN10.
You also need directx June 2010.
You download the file, extract to a folder and run dxsetup.exe
Download details: DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)
I tested this several times on various dells and the result was always the same. You receive a "Stop 0x000000CA" error when you get to the part where it says "detecting video Hardware"
Crash if you try to install omega 14.X WHQL,or Legacy Drivers.
DOTNET 4.0 is Required as a minimum BEFORE the video driver.

If it says a newer one is already installed thats fine.
If you install DOTNET 4.52 immediately sometimes it helps sometimes not.
All of them after downloading and installing hundreds of updates then stopped crashing on the Omega driver. It dies right at the point where it says detecting graphics hardware then Blue Screen 0x000000CA.
Where the Crashing Drivers are Go to "C:\amd\(version)\config" folder.
Open "InstallManager.cfg" file in Notepad.
Change last line "WorkaroundInstall = false" to "WorkaroundInstall = true"
Save, close; (reboot optional - apparently works without reboot).
Return to parent folder and run "setup.exe"
