ATI Radeon X1650 Pro HELP!!!
Hi, I have a problem...
I recently bought a 256 MB Visiontek X1650 Pro, and I put it into my C521.
I get the monitor hooked up, turn on the computer, and the monitor stays black, and the processor fan (I think that's the noisy fan :smileytongue: ) stays at it's highest setting!! Is it because it needs extra power?
The graphics card has a fan, and my power supply is 280W (standard). Please help!!!
Thanks in advance!

I believe this is the card you purchased:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129076
This model does not require any additional power from the power supply.
Your C521 has four diagnostic lights. What are they telling you?
Compare your results and post back.

Here's what's happening:
This horrible picture was taken by the webcam in the laptop, but you can see that is has bad green lines all over the place. This is my problem. The system runs fine and fast, but for this problem.
This one below is the one I intended to use, but when I got it on my laptop, it was normal!! Clearly the system doesn't recognise the mishap right now...
That's all til tomoro.

Yes that is my card I bought, and that is good news!
Read beyond this paragraph to avoid the drama...
I tried reinstalling the card, and...YEY!...it started and the computer calmed down, but wait a minute...the computer has loaded to the login screen, and the screen lasts about 5 seconds, it goes black, like the off black, and the "This resolution isn't supported" sign is flashing! Also, it is flashing with the normal XP login screen with green lines all over it.
I am writing to you from my laptop as this happens, and I am right in front of my screens.
I just restarted my desktop, and every screen is green and black!!!!!!! From the Dell screen to the XP to the login screen, they are just messed up!
Anyway, I checked the lights as they come up, and they come on like normal, no light indicators staying on longer than about 2 seconds. This lasts about 6 seconds, and they all turn off
Could it be that the HDMI to DVI adapter is bad?
I'll post a pic of my desktop in the next post...

So the four diagnostic lights go out after boot up. Then what are the system lights indicating? Compare and post back please

Were you using integrated video prior to installing the x1650? If so did you disable the integrated video in our bios? For the record, I don't own a C521 and am not familiar with the procedure for disabling the integrated graphics.
What video drivers are you using for the x1650?
To correct the "resolution isn't supported" message, have you tried adjusting the resolution in Control Panel under Display to match the native resolution of your monitor?
The good news is the card lights up.
Good Luck

First off, the link appears to be dead, because Internet Explorer says page can't be displayed...
Anyway, I started it up, and it stays in VGA mode, even when I try adjusting the resolution!
Also, I learned how to increase the integrated video memory to 640 MB (512 MB own mem, 128 MB ram mem)!!, but that's beside the point...
No, I wasn't using the integrated graphics, yes they were disabled (manually), I was using my 128 MB X1300 that I ordered with my computer. And before you ask, I did uninstall the old drivers, so it was a clean install.
The drivers I installed were the Visiontek X1650 Pro HD version 8.301 from the CD that came with it.
Yes, I used the CP to adjust the res to 1680x1050 (native/maximum)
And the good news was that I didn't need a power cable.................or has anyone found out otherwise?

I checked on amd.com, and their driver wasn't as new as mine...but I downloaded it anyway.
Also, I checked the link again, and it worked!
The system lights are behaving normally, so nothing wrong there...
If the drivers don't work, I'm going to see if I can get a new HDMI to DVI adapter, see what happens then.
If none of those work, I'm gonna see if I can get a replacement card from Newegg.
BTW: Thanks for the help Dale, it's nice working with you!
You have any other suggestions, or comments, just say so.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ordered a new HDMI-DVI adapter from Newegg for $4.99, when before, I went to the stores (a bad idea). They had them for $34.99!!!! Ridiculous!!!!
So anyway, I ordered the card on a Sunday, and got it on that Tuesday! (thanx Newegg!) I plugged it in, and lo & behold, I turned the computer on, and.......no more green lines (or any lines, for that matter)!!!!!!!! I had the slight feeling that it might be the adapter, but I doubted it. So now I'm up and running with my new ATI Radeon X1650 Pro graphics card, and my computer is performing better than ever!
Despite my adapter troubles, it was worth that graphics card in the end! I've actually been up and running for a week or two, but I just remembered that I had a post on here about this! Forgetting again!

That is nice to hear it was only the adapter. Thanks for letting the forum know.
Good Luck
