Add PCI-E video card to VOSTRO 230?

Very simple,  right?

I have a Vostro 230 MT.

It is the base configuration with 2G and onboard video. It
is much slower than you would expect from its specs.

It is only used for basic web and business apps, no games.

The intent is for a single monitor system with onboard disabled.

BIOS is current.  1.4

I installed an HD 5450 in the PCI-E slot and installed the
ATI drivers.

Windows 7 does not see the card and it is not in device
manager.  (only standard vga driver)

The card does function but its not in device manager and has
no drivers.

I can see no way to disable onboard in BIOS.

 BIOS set for PEG/PCI

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

You might try downloading the Catalyst drivers from AMD. Also, if your BIOS is not the latest version, updating it is

advisable.

I had issues using the ATI 5XXX cards with some mainboards. That's one reason I don't recommend them.

It was a low power, no fan card at a good price.

Yes, just updated the BIOS to 1.4

Its odd in that it is driving the monitor just fine. Its just that Windows 7 does not see it so the drivers do not install.

Device Manager does not detect it. Under Display adapters it just shows generic VGA driver.
