Linda: I'm a sports columnist at a large metro paper on the West Coast. We have a tech guy who does a column. I sent him a link to this particular problem because it seems that Dell isn't acting with any sense of alacrity.

Negative.
I'm not paying another penny, they can send me one - if not, i'll just keep calling every day with the same question - they'll eventually get tired of me :)

Hi, WriteJC
I have talked to Dell tech support to many times on this issue and the final responce is change the CMOS battery (the one that is not supposed to die for several more years).
I am always asking why questions and that is what Dell techs do not answer. So, we all change our batteries and we still do not have an answer as to why so many computers are having this annoying issue.
I do hope that you get to the bottom of it!

Les (and anyone else),
I bought my Dimension 8300 in mid-December and the problem began this morning. I just got off the phone with tech support and they're shipping me a new CMOS battery.
I read through all the messages here and one item struck me as worthy of a question: I have a software firewall set up (ZoneAlarm) and have been blocking Internet access to two programs - "Support" and "DSLog". Are those set up by Dell? And could that potentially have the impact referenced by someone's call to tech support where they said the battery's memory was filled up by the "event log"?
Where does one go to find the "system setup"?
Thanks,
Glenn

I received my replacement battery from Dell tech support but it's just sitting here for now as I haven't had a repeat occurrence of the 'low battery voltage' alert. If it was really a low battery alert, why would it only happen once?
Has anyone here reading this had a successful resolution of the error message by actualy doing something?

My Dell Dimension 8300, which I have had for about nine months, started to give me the "battery voltage is low" message this week. The only suggestion Dell support had was to change my surge protector (I am using a CyberPower 625AVR UPS) or bypass the surge protector and plug the computer directly into the wall (!). Is the surge protector really the issue? I have a 6 year old Dell Dimension XPS D266 that has never had internal battery issues.
What have others done to correct the problem?

The surge protector is not the issue, it's like putting a band-aid on the real problem.
It will re-surface in time.
What we have here is a manufacturer's defect.
And frankly, Dell hasn't been very forthright with it's obligations to customers. I'm running very short on patience.

You're exactly right! Dell would hate to admit that they have an issue with a lot of their models in 2003. They don't want to have to dole out the cash for the fix since they already have that money spent.
What is most upsetting is the fact that we have all paid money well over the average cost of other computers for the fact that Dell supposedly has the best customer support. We are not seeing that right now. Every person that we talk to about these issues has a different fix for it; none of which work. So we all need to write Dell and express our dissatisfaction in their handling of this issue. If we all don't band together, then Dell will not have a fire lit under their posteriors as to trying to find an answer that actually works.

I am experiencing this "low battery" warning problem also.
I have a Dell 8300 attached to a Belkin DSL/2.4 GHz 4 port wireless router and Belkin UPS / Surge unit.
PM with Service tag sent.
