Amount of system memory has changed

Is there ANY way to make this message go away?

Amount of system memory has changed, strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility

I have been replacing MoBo's on my fleet of sx270's, but I recently have been getting this error after the MotherBoard has been replaced. I run the setup utility, BIOS says the RAM is there and working, next reboot and everyone thereafter gives that same error. I flashed the BIOS from v.A05 to v.A06, and experience the same result. The RAM, CPU, Heatsink, Fan, HD, are all the same only the MoBo is different. I would like to get the error to stop, but if there was a way to turn off the error so it will continue to boot (W/O striking F1 or F2), that would make my life easier

Have you found a fix for this?  My situation's exactly like yours - I'm having the same trouble.

I have not - I have been replacing the motherboards until the message goes away - sometimes it does,  sometimes it doesn't. (Sometimes it takes two or three tries). I was excited to see a post on this - I thought that someone might have solved the problem....

After seeing the message, have you tried rebooting, going into BIOS (you mentioned it was correct there) and then saving the BIOS settings to store the new RAM configuration?  May be a simplistic question, but I didn't see it mentioned in your original post.

Yes, I have rebooted and gone into the BIOS and checked the memory amount, which is ok, however when I exit it never asks to save changes.   And I wouldn't expect it to because I haven't made any changes.   I'm sure I've seen times when no changes were made to a BIOS and it still asks to save changes however this PC doesn't.

yes, like DebKing I have tried to verify and save the amount of RAM the system finds. I have even gone as far as to make a change and save the changes, but the memory error still appears at boot.

This is similar to the ESM log generated by servers.  It stores error messages.  Say it is a fan or power supply issue and the parts are replaced the ESM log or in this case the event log can continue to report it as a problem until the ESM log is cleared.

THE FIX...................

Boot up the system, hit F2 to go to setup, go down the page until you get to event log, hit enter, pick clear log, exit, reboot, all gone.

I tried the FIX, cleared the error log, current event log status: valid (in blue) saved changes, reboot - error : the amount of system memory has changed, strike F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility    I have been trying ever since I read the post, still having the same trouble. I was counting on this to work. Thanks for the info, I'll keep searching for answers

ah-ha - I have made a discovery! I have turned off the report keyboard errors and turned off fast boot and now the system will continue to boot w/o user input (F1 or F2) although the error still shows, there is no beep and no user input required, system continues to OS.

Looks like I lied...

I just got an email that one machine that previously had the message did have it come back after just only doing the clear event log.  Don't have time to mess with it today but will update at another time.

Are you sure when you tried to clear the event log that it did in fact clear it?

Been through several of these machines today and everyone cleared the message after clearing the event log.

Something else you might try......

reboot

f2 to setup

Now, be sure you have all three of these lights on... Num Lock; Caps Lock; Scroll Lock

Be sure you know what you have for all the settings in your BIOS

Now, do   alt+e

You should hear a beep

Now, do  alt+f

You should hear another beep

This will put your bios settings to the default factory settings.

Go to the event log and clear the log

You can either leave all the settings as they are and reboot to see if message is still there and later put in the settings you originally had, which I would suggest

or, put your settings in now, save the changes and reboot to see if the message is no more.

Have had the same issue and found that the only sure fire way was the flash the BIOS and might as well be the lastest one. Error gone for sure.  Have this issue alot with replacement system boards that are sent to us for install

Gzio is right, flash the bios then use the reset jumper on the motherboard. That error is not a "previous" error. Also, "previous" errors only happen once after the next reboot. There were bios versions that had a glitch that didn't clear it but it doesn't apply to this error anyway.

I had the same problem and found the solution. Shut the system down. Turn system on pressing F2 until you get into BIOS.  Then make sure that you have your Num Lock, CAPs and Scroll key lights turned on, on your keyboard. Then press and hold the alt key down and tap the F key until you hear it beep. Then release both keys. Then press and hold the alt key down and tap the E key until you hear it beep.  Then press the Esc key.  It will then ask you if you want to “Save and Exit” select “Save and Exit” the system will then go through the IDE configuration. Done

Did you try...

F2
Go down to event log
Hit enter
Select --- clear log
Exit
Reboot
Message should be gone, at least it worked for me
