Asus GeForce 1070 Strix inside a XPS8700/8900

Hello guys

I saw some people talking about installing an Asus 1070 Strix inside the XPS8900 case... it appears that it is a tight fit, but it works. The thing is, a lot of people managed to put the Asus there by getting longer SATA cables for the HDD or puting the HDD below the DVD drive.

So, how hard it is to put and install the Asus inside a XPS? Is it really necessary to get extra cables?

Thanks :)

PrivateBundy,

You can click the link below to download the online users manual for removing and replacing parts within your computer.  It shouldn't be to tedious to add the card into your computer.

In an 8900, the physical factors to consider are:

1) size of card ( length / height )

2) PCI power needs of card ( 8 pin plus 6 pin, single 8 pin, other...)

3) SATA cable length

Much of the discussion in this thread is relevant.

1)

Some cards are too tall and won't fit.

Some cards are too long and need the case cut

Some cards fit snugly

Some cards have the power connectors mounted high on the board and will not fit.

The largest cards I have put in an 8700 is an MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G. It is the same size as the MSI GTX 1070 Gaming 8G.  279 x 140 x 42 mm

The Asus is

11.73 " x 5.28 " x 1.57 " Inch

29.8 x 13.4 x4 Centimeter

I think you may have to cut the case to fit the Asus card.

2) PCI power.

OEM power supply has two six pin connectors on a single cable. A reverse Y-connector will adapt this to the single 8 pin on the Asus Strix card.

That said, my personal opinion is one should upgrade the power supply when investing $400 on a graphics card. The stock PSU will work, but...

3) Sata Cable length

16 to 18 inches will work no matter where the drive is located.

Thanks so much for your detailed answer! So a MSI GeForce 1070 Gaming X (or Z) should fit fine, right? I already have a Corsair 500W PSU (which isn´t the best PSU available I know).
