BIOS CPU Speed 200MHz or "Compatible"

In the BIOS there is an option CPU speed !!!
The CPU speed can be set to 200MHz or "Compatible"
If I set the BIOS to "Compatible"
the system is very slow !!!
What does "Compatible" do to the system?
Thank You

xboomerx,

Compatability would indicate that it lowers some settings to allow hardware or software to operate on the system that would otherwise not normally work. This can in effect slow the system down.

Compatible mode reduces the CPU speed, & disables the L2 cache.  This is a diagnostic mode.
