BIOS not detecting CD-RW/DVD-RW

Dell Dimension 4600c -crashed. I have a new, blank hard drive that I have installed and now I need to re-install XP. Also, the PC shipped with a CD-RW and I upgraded it to a DVD-RW. The BIOS does not detect the CDROM drive at all. Initially, the BIOS listed the CDROM as "not installed", I then did the ALT E, ALT F and ALT B reset. After that, it does not list it at all. For some reason it does think I have a Floppy Drive...which I don't.  Any ideas?

When you cleared the NVRAM by doing the ALT + E.... etc,  the procedure defaulted all your BIOS options which turned On the option for the Diskette Drive.  To correct the problem just go into the BIOS Setup and turn OFF the Diskette Drive A: option.  That option should be listed under the Drive Configuration sub-menu.
 
As for the system not recognizing the new drive, I would double check the jumper settings for the drive and make sure it is set for Cable Select.  Also re-check to see the ribbon cable is properly seated on the motherboard and in the drive.
