BUILD A COMPUTER FOR YOU...YEAH RIGHT
WE PURCHASED A COMPUTER FROM DELL THIS PAST DECEMBER, WE TOLD THE SALES REP IT WAS MAINLY GOING TO BE USED FOR GAMES. WE GOT THE BIG HARD DRIVE THE EXPENSIVE LCD MONITER,EXTRA SPEAKERS AND ALL THE OTHER STUFF, BUT WHAT WE DIDNT GET IS A VIDEO CARD THAT WILL WORK WITH ANY GAMES .I HAVE CONTACTED CUST. SUPPORT AND ALL THEY WILL OFFER ME IS A $100.00 COUPON TOWARDS THE COST OF THE THE CORRECT VIDEO CARD. NOW AM I BEING UNREASONABLE WHEN I SAY THAT I DONT THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A VIDEO CARD THAT I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IN THE FIRST PLACE. AFTER ALL THEY ARE THE EXPERTS, WE CALL THEM BECAUSE WE DONT BUILD COMPUTERS FOR A LIVING.
IF ANYONE HAS HAD A THE SAME OR RELATED PROBLEM AND CAN OFFER ANY ADVICE ON HOW TO HANDLE THIS PLEASE RESPOND.
THANK YOU

I think part of the customization of the PC was supergluing the Caps Lock key down...

i wa respomding to your caps loch comment, i thank you for your advice, but i still think that when a company sells you a product and tells you it will do something and when you get that product and it does not do what they say it would they said it was going to they should do what ever it takes to remedy the problem. sorry for yelling.

Not knowing both sides of the story, I'm hesitant to comment on the central question.
One problem may have been if you just told the sales rep that you wanted to play "games". There are a lot of games out there, and many probably don't require anything particularly powerful as far as video goes. The sales rep may not have been knowledgeable enough in that market to know to ask "what kind of games?"
I think the $100 coupon is a good deal. If the computer had originally had the card you'll probably be getting, I doubt you would have gotten a $100 discount on it. So essentially, that's a $100 apology for the frustration you've been having.

That's strange... what games, in case they're ones I've played and might have some information on?
Also, what video card do you have (there was speculation earlier that it was an FX5200), and do you know if you have the most recent drivers for it?

I'd have to agree with everything dan39 has said. I'm really shocked they didn't try to sell you at least an nVidia FX5200 video card (you may not have been happy with that one either but it's way better than Intel's onboard graphics). For now, use system restore to roll your computer back before the update you did so things will work for now. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gethelp/systemrestore.asp
Then work with Dell on getting a real video card. What model Dell did you buy? We'll give you some suggestions on video cards. (PLEASE...don't have a Dimension 2400...
