Booting from USB 3.0 Storage Device on XPS One 2710 touch
Hi,
I have been trying to boot from my USB Storage Drive.
I have backup windows 8 using Acronis and restore it onto my USB Drive.
When I select the usb drive after press F12 during boot up, it can detect my usb drive and boot from there, but end up into repair mode.
Any advice?
Thanks

Hi simonow ,
Welcome to the Community.
To enable/disable the USB boot support in BIOS
1. Restart/turn on the system.
2. As soon as you see the Dell logo, tap until the message Entering Setup appears.
3. In the setup, scroll to the Boot tab.
4. Select the USB Boot Support option.
5. Select Enabled or Disabled based on your choice.
Thanks & Regards

Hi Manshu,
I have tried, it didn't work. The USB Boot Support is turned on.
I have also tried the diskpart, it also didn't work. It booted by the system encounter errors during booting and than rebooted.
What I need is to be able to run windows 8 on my usb hard drive.
I'm using a usb 2.0 drive plugged to usb 3.0 on the 2710.
Can you provide me with the steps on how I can boot windows 8 on my usb storage.
I wanted to do this was to test out some software and programming, but didn't want to mess up my windows 8 on the 2710.
Please enligthen.
Thank You.

btw, I used the latest Acronis True Image to backup the whole harddisk on my 2710. I used that to restore it onto my usb harddisk. the system recognised my usb drive as UEFI and it booted but encounter error while booting.
