CPU Fan Failure- XPS8300 i5-2500
I am a getting a "CPU Fan Failure" message when I boot up my XPS8300 desktop.
From reading other posts on the forums, I am trying to replace my fan. Is this correct?
How do I know to replace the regular fan at the back of the tower, or the heatsink+fan within the tower?

If the error says "CPU fan", you would have to replace the heatsink fan...
But before you do that, carefully unplug the fan cable from the motherboard and reconnect it. See the service manual for instructions. Then close the case and reboot. If you're lucky...
Otherwise, you may have to replace both the heatsink and fan because they look like one unit.
And you'll need a Dell OEM heatsink+fan because the fan has a sensor that BIOS has to read. non-Dell fans won't have the sensor, and you'll get that same CPU fan failure error you have now.
