Can Pentium 4 670 3.8Ghz run windows 7 64bit ?

I was wondering if the Pentium 4 670 3.8GHZ can run windows 7 64bit? I know that the p4 670 does have what is called EMT64, so I was wondering if that means that it could run windows 7 64bit and 64 bit applications?

The reason I am asking is because I have a Dell 8400 that has a P4 670 and 4GB of ram and if I can make a move to windows 7 64bit than I will be able to take advantage of the extra 1 GB ram that XP doesn't see and continue using my PC for another few years.

Current PC:

Dell dimension 8400, P4 670 3.8GHZ, 4GB RAM, 1.2TB hard drive, Nvidia 8800GT

Thanks

It's a 64-bit CPU.

Go for it!

Thanks. Works great, have been running Windows 7 64 for 2 weeks now and it is running great. Only thing is windows still says 4 GB RAM (3GB Usable) . After checking things out I can see that 1 gig is reserved for hardware. Not sure what that is about.

no. that's erroneous. there are some 64 bit P4 cpus that do not support 64 bit OS. I have one. unfortunately.

go to intel, there is a small application there that you can run locally and find out if you have a cpu that supports 64bit OS. and if you have a intel MB. same thing.

Glad, it worked out for the OP. it's true that hardware uses memory space. that's why a 32 bit OS can only use 3G of the 4G but if you have a 64bit OS then you have a bigger memory address space and you should be able to see and use all 4G. you sure you installed the 64 bit version?
