Can't update McAfee DAT file
I have a Dimension XPS T500. I've been using the McAfee
engine that came with it, and update DAT files about
every month or so. Yesterday I downloaded the sdat 4157
but when I wanted to "finish" (install? it) I got a message
"unable to find any qualifying products". What th'!
Thinking the superdat was the problem, I downloaded the
regular 4157xdat and got the same message when opening
and attempting to install it.
Is it possible that I unknowingly deleted some important cookie or file, or is my time up with the free antivirus
that came with the Dell?
The computer is fine as far as I know.

Right-click on the Vshield icon in your systray, then click about. When the window appears you will see McAfee Vshield 4.0.X. If your version is 4.0.2, that version no longer supports the dats and superdats after 4155. Hopefully, you updated (for free) to 4.0.3 long ago and that is not your problem. If you did not, McAfee at one time made the 4.0.3 upgrade available as a download long after its initial release because users who reformatted and used their original install disk often did not save their upgrade utility program (which, for those who recommend cleaning the Windows Temp folder often, is where the files for that upgrade utility downloaded). I have the upgrade utility program but unfortunately it is 8.12 MB. If you need it, maybe McAfee still has it available as a download.
