Chipset heatsink not detected, system halted

I have a Dimension 4600C and after a recent move, it won't boot. I'm getting the error "Chipset heatsink not detected". I checked and the heatsink and metal "Z" clip are still in place. Any suggestions?

Hi,

If the retaining clip for the chipset heatsink is not properly attached or is missing, a desktop system will not complete POST and may display the error message:

Alert! Chipset heat sink not detected.
System Halted.

The chipset heat sink has a retaining clip that hooks to metal connectors on the motherboard which creates a test circuit in which current flows through the clip from one connector to the other. When the flow of current is interrupted, an error condition is created, and the error message is displayed.

If you find the clip to be intact, then check if the system has valid warranty and have the System board replaced.
