Controlling HDMI volume: AC511 and P2815Q

So I'm connecting in an Amazon FireTV, a Roku, AppleTV and a Chromecast. None of these have audio on the device. When I connect them to a TV, for example, I control the volume through the TV, not the master HDMI device. In fact there is no volume control at all available in any of these devices.

I think I've worked this out by finding a cable with a volume control though.

The monitor and the speakers are slave receivers of the HDMI audio. The HDMI audio volume is controlled via the master device sending the HDMI signal to the monitor.

How were you able to connect the AC511 to a P2815Q?

I received in the package the AC511 and plugged it into the USB port of the monitor.

Do I need to do anything else to make it work? The AC511 turns on and I can see the light on the side, but I cannot hear any sound at all.

Also, does the combination of P2815Q + AC511 work on a Mac? (I may try this if I cannot get the above working on a Dell Windows 10 Laptop)

Dell NCW95  AC511 USB Soundbar has passed WHQL logo testing by Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs. For windows 7 and 8.

There is an additional cable that goes from the monitor to a usb port on the computer.  You must then turn it on and adjust volume. First, connect the speaker to the monitor hub, then plug the hub's USB cable into a USB 2 port (not 3 !!) on the computer. Windows should then recognize the soundbar and may, if necessary, install a driver. Next, launch Windows control panel and select the "sound" dialog. The soundbar should appear on a list of playback devices. Click on it to set it as the default system speaker. A green-circled check mark will confirm this. Click "OK" to close the dialog. Since I've done this, the soundbar works fine

There is no PASS THRU from HDMI to usb.  You have to use the USB A to B cable from the monitor to a usb port on the PC or you wont get any sound.

So there is NO way to send audio to this speaker without a computer? 

My scenario is that I have a Dell U2715H display and this AC511 speaker. Speaker is connected to the display physically, USB from speaker to display, line out from display to speaker. I have a Chromecast in the HDMI port.

I can run line out to other speakers I have, but when I plug into the AC511... silence. 

Is this the expected behavior?

How did you get this working in the first place? I have my AC511 connected to a Dell U2715H display via the attached USB cable and then have audio out from display to the AC511. I have a Chromecast connected to the HDMI port and get no audio through the speakers. If I plug the same audio out into any other speaker it works fine.

If a separate USB connection is required then why isn't a cable included? The only other cable that came with mine is a USB extension (male to female) cable. I need to supply my own USB cable?

I have the AC511 with a U2715H....all was well until Windows 10.  If I leave the USB connected to the monitor hub, whenever I turn the monitor off and then back on, I lose the sound...have to reboot.  If I run the extension USB cable directly to the PC the issues goes away...????? Is it a driver issue with W10??
