Crucial vs Corsair Memory

Hello,

Concerning a P4 mobo with 800MHz dual channel fsb and an Intel socket 478 875P/3.2 chipset:

What is the best brand memory to use with this board.  I see Corsair is popular with this board but what about Crucial Labs or any others.  I plan on using two sticks of 512.

Also I have seen reference made of memory heat sinks being available, is this a good idea or necessary with the above application..........Thanks......

Corsair will most likely have a lower latency and be a little faster. Crucial will cost less but will have a slightly slower latency. Both are  good quality memory. The Corsair will overclock better than Crucial. You only need memory cooling if you are going to overclock and raise the memory voltage. If you are using a Dell motherboard go with the Crucial.

Custom builders prefer Corsair because they often overclock their systems.  Since you can't overclock your PC, stick with Crucial.  The Corsiar has better spec, but you will not realize ANY improvement with your system.

Why spend $ on premium when your car is designed to run on regular unleaded gasoline?

You don't mention if this is a Dell board or not. To clarify what Francis Nguyen has stated, if it's a Dell board only Crucial ram will work, if retail then go for the Corsair.

If it's a new Dell youre talking about, you could get the Corsair Value Select CL2.5 RAM and it will run at 2.5 at DDR400. The catch is you'd have to ditch ALL of your Dell memory for this to work.

Thanks to all that replied.  I failed to mention that the board being used will be a new Asus P4C800-E Deluxe with Intels 875P/3.2 chipset.  Not planning to over clock it just yet.  I will go with the Corsair memory, thanks.

While your here, Intels CPU's (875P/3.2) come boxed in two versions, one with a fan and one with out.  I don't know how well the Intel's fan cooler works?  How well does this cooler work, will it be ok?

I know there are a million coolers on the market, some boardering pure witch craft and they don't cost all that much.  Zalman (copper) is good as are a few others but is the Intel's fan cooler good also?

Thanks and Happy New year To All.................

They cool well enough but can tend to be noisy sometimes. Voodoo used a SwifTech cooler on my CPU, which is quiet and keeps the thermals around 117F under load. I have used the Zalman coolers w/ great success and they are whisper quiet. I would also use the Artic Silver 5 on the CPU.

yeah so in that case I'd definitely pick up some good Corsair or Kingston HyperX, if you're going to O/C, check out OCZ or Mushkin.
