DVD player not working HELP!!!
When I place a DVD in the CD ROM tray there's a whirling noise for a couple of seconds and then silence. No picture or audio from the DVD. Also when I loaded my Turbo Tax CD to do my taxes again the whirling noise and then nothing. My desktop is a Dell Inspiron 660.

Use a working machine to copy the files to a USB Flash drive ... then install from that.
If this disc is truely bad, exchange it at the local retail store. Still no go ... call Intuit and they might toss you a download or Next-Day a disk to you.

The first thing I'd do is try another DVD drive. Is this a slim?
If this is truly urgent, you might try an external USB DVD drive. They are around $30 on sale.

I followed the instructions in that link and it didn't work on my Dell Inspiron 660 desktop commuter.
One question though in the instructions it says type the following line of copy and say enter.
Did you mean type the word enter or hit the enter key?
Also to save time I copied and pasted that long line of copy.
Was that ok or should I have typed it out?

Hi timcat4843,
I appreciate the time and effort that you took to troubleshoot the issue.
Kindly copy the complete command without the " and paste the same in the Run box. Then hit enter on the keyboard.
Reboot the system and check again. If you receive any errors kindly let us know the details of the same.
Thanks and Regards
