Dell Dimension 3000 CPU Fan Replacement Issues

I was trying to fix my friends CPU fan on his Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop PC yesterday but could not get it working right.

Problem:  The PC/Chassis fan died
Solution:   I replaced the fan - but still getting BIOS boot errors (CPUFAN0 out of range)

The fan was not an exact replacement.  I pulled it out of a dead PC I had sitting around (but it works).  I was able to get the fan to run on this system by replacing the connector (since the original fans power connector is proprietary).  The fan will turn on when I power up the computer, but the error stating on previous bootup the fan failed still comes up.

I assume the fan I put in there isn't setup properly to send the correct signal to the motherboards RPM sensor.  Not sure what else to try other than to spend money on a Dell replacement fan.

Not sure how much Dell charges for replacement fans.  I found a diff site selling them, but would rather buy from Dell so I get a compatible fan if the price is the same/close.

**Sometimes the BIOS error doesn't come up.  It seems to be completely random.  Please help!  :p
