Dell M-UVDEL1 Mouse Pointer Gets Stuck: Possible Solutions

These are possible solutions for fixing a M-UVDEL1 USB mouse when the pointer gets stuck.

Computer: Dell Precision 380, OS: Windows XP Pro, SP3

Issue: The Mouse cursor/pointer frequently stops moving - gets "stuck" on the screen. The only way to get it back is to unplug the mouse, then replug it in, or to restart the computer. Uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse driver doesn't work.

Solution #1:

1. Take the mouse apart and clean the insides. Only one screw to remove on the bottom of the unit. The top opens a bit like a clam shell, then lifts off.

2. Make a diagram of the insides. There are 2 wire springs to be careful with, but the insides are simple and easy to clean.

3. Clean out any lint etc. inside the unit . Clean the roller with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol if necessary.

4. Put everything back together.

Solution #2: Turn off power saving setting for the usb port used by the mouse.

1. Click on the green Windows "Start" button, then right click on "My Computer", and click on "Properties".

2. Click on the "Hardware" tab, then click on the "Device Manager" button.

3. Click on the "+" to expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

4. Right click on each listing of the "USB Root Hub" and click on "Properties".

5. Click on the "Power" tab and find the one that lists your "HID-Compliant Mouse".

6. Click on the "Power Management" tab for that USB Root Hub, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

7. Click "OK", close the "Device Manager", then restart your computer to activate the setting.

Solution #3: Having read a number of forums, the actually problem may be due to a video driver issue.

1. Update your computer's video card driver.

Solution #4: The problem may be due to the Video Card Hardware acceleration setting.

1. On a blank space of your desktop, press the right mouse.

2. Select "properties". Click the "settings" tab.

3. At the bottom right of the little window, click "advanced". select the "performance" tab, or whichever tab includes the "Hardware acceleration" slider .

4. Slide the hardware acceleration slider down one notch. click "apply" then "ok".
