Dell OptiPlex 755 SFF BIOS upgrade

Hi

I recently bought a secondhand Dell OptiPlex 755 SFF for around £60.

All is and was great until I discovered I could upgrade my BIOS to a more recent one.  I decided to download the A22 BIOS from the Dell website.  However once it opens (running as administrator) it would give an error message.

I currently have Windows 7 Pro installed - could this be the problem?

I also tried to download the BIOS to my memory stick in a FAT32 format and boot from there - but no luck.

I also tried the A19 BIOS but the same happened as to A22.

I'm more than happy to downgrade back to Windows Vista Business and perform the upgrade - can I then upgrade back to Windows 7 Pro?

The ship date for my computer was December 2008 - does this reflect any issues?

I also live in the United Kingdom.

Many Thanks in advanced

NorthEasterner.

The Bios updates will only run from within Windows XP and Windows Vista. Or, from a DOS-bootable USB flash drive. So in your case, you must create the DOS-bootable USB flash drive and copy the file O755-A22.exe to the flash drive.

Run the BIOS update utility from DOS environment (Non-Windows users)
NOTE: You will need to provide a bootable DOS USB key. This executable file does not create the DOS system files.
1. Copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB key
2. Boot from the USB key to the DOS prompt
3. Run the file by typing copied file name where the executable is located

Hi

Thanks for your quick response, this might sound stupid but what is a USB Key? Also how do I create a bootable DOS USB stick?

Sorry if this sounds obvious.

I managed to run the A22 update within Windows 7 64 Bit on 3 OptiPlex 755s.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON.  You cannot jump from A01 to A22.

You will need at least A19 then A20 and then A22.

Antivirus Programs will Brick the machine by crashing it just after it erases the flash.

If you have antivirus program UNINSTALL IT and Reboot at least 2 times.

Then try update.

The other "issue" can be windows updates.

Unplug from net and turn off router.

Then reboot a few times to make sure there are no windows updates.

It can take 20 to 30 minutes with a black screen and no indication of anything happening.

DO NOT TURN OFF once you start the bios update or you will be sorry.
