Dell OptiPlex GX270, Small Form Factor Desktop - firewire card driver?
Hi,
I got this nice small XP up and running perfectly about a month ago. Suddenly there are multiple problems which I thought were history because all the drivers for this XP were laboriously downloaded over a year ago when I began installing new components including a hard drive.
Tonight the firewire card stopped being recognized by the pc. I took it out and reinserted it. XP recognised it (again) but then started asking for drivers. This card has been on the pc for over a year, I've gone through the driver game with this card. Now suddenly the pc says it hasn't got a driver for the card, so the card isn't working (and I can't plug my dv cam / project to the pc [grrr] after weeks of preparation).
Can I find a generic Windows Microsoft driver for this card please on the Internet?
The card details are: OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
It is listed under Device Manager with Microsoft Driver July 1st 2001 version 5.1.2535.0
I can't ask XP to auto surf the web for the driver because XP has also suddenly refused to recognise my broadband connection - despite the fact I manually downloaded a Windows Microsoft update over broadband about 2 hours ago to the very self-same pc! (sigh)
Thanks,
Ric

Hi Ric,
If you solve your internet connection problem, then it should be a relatively easy matter to find this driver. So my suggestion would be to take things one at a time.

Thanks, yes - the internet connection failed just as the card issue came to light which has me in a corner right now. Will update.

PS. if the ethernet broadband 'NIC failure' cannot be resolved, could I replace it with a wireless solution do you think?

You could try a USB NIC and or USB wireless adapter.

Thanks. Have a wireless laptop but would prefer to stick with cable for the Optiplex - so I'd be looking to replace the spent NIC card?
