Dell Optiplex 780 MT CPU Upgrade & Heatsink

Hello,

I have a Dell Optiplex 780 MT Pentium Dual Core E5400 2.70ghz that I would like to put a Q9550 quad CPU into. Will the original heatsink be adequate for the new Q9550?

I know on my 755 it had a nice copper heatsink that had no problems with the same upgrade but not sure about the 780 MT.

I upgraded my 780 to the Q9550, and installed the HEATSINK D9729     SHROUD J9761 when I put in the new CPU.  When I'm just doing normal business computer usage, the 4 cores (reported by SpeedFan) run between 28-35C, and when the machine is under heavy load doing PlayOn transcoding/streaming, temps edge up to 48-52C.

Was able to purchase a NEW heatsink/shroud assembly with unused thermal compound patch for $15 from Red Planet Trading on eBay.  Quite happy with this setup!

I believe that the Performance Copper Heatsink is the same for Dimension E520 E521 Optiplex GX620 755 745, 380, 755, 760, 780 MT.

The cheap Aluminum version is HR004, J7109, FW209, W5685, W6177

HEATSINK D9729     SHROUD J9761 is the High end Copper part.

Heatsink does like good. Can we confirm this heatsink will be adequate for a Q9550 quad core?

It works fine for the Pressler 960 at 130W so I'm sure its fine for the Q9550 95W.
