Dell Precision T5810 GPU Video Card Upgrade

My power supply is 425W and I want to add a GTX 960 video card.  It requires a 6 pin power connector.  After looking at my power supply, it has a 8 pin female connector that is available.  Does anyone if this uses the 12V rails on the power supply?  And if so, would I need a 8 pin male to 6 pin male adapter?  Dell ProSupport was only able to give me but so much insight into this.  Thanks.

Hi,

I was able to make GTX 1080 work for T5810. My current specs:

685W PSU

Silverstone Tek Sleeved 1x PCI-E 8-Pin (6+2) 550mm Cable (PP06B-PCIE55)

GTX 1080 (not TI version)

It works without any issue. Hope this helps.

You need the 1100W power supply to have 2 cards. And the Video cable.

6 PIN splitter cable part number D92C9:

Precision 5810 power supply part numbers:

YFY1V - 425W PSU

VDY4N - 685W PSU

RHHKV - 825W PSU  (Not sure if the chassis is the same)

W12Y2 - 1100W PSU (Not sure if the chassis is the same)

You would have to check with ChrisM or someone who has access to the build spreadsheets.  They are not available anymore.

Power supply extended card part number is M6NP2:

It goes here ( this is a picture with the power supply removed ):

The power supply is proprietary.

I'm not sure that the connector on that Optiplex is the same as this connector on my PSU.

I think an 8 PIN to 6+2 PIN modular cable would work from this output to power my 6 pin video card.

Don't you?

It looks like PCI-E power and it says Power VGA1

So it might support a 150W card but not a 225W card.

And for the record, I'm using my OEM Dell 425w power supply.  I think you thought I had another one or something.

A GTX 960 card is 150W TDP.  I've ordered the card and cable.  Will reply if this configuration works.  Was not able to find anyone else that attempted this who documented it on the internets.

I have the same computer and want to install the same video card.

did it work?

I am having trouble finding an 8 pin female to (2) 6 pin female y adapter.

That is what I need right?
