Dell VOSTRO 2520 second RAM slot not found
Hi,
I’ve put two 4GB RAM in order to have 8BG RAM but seems that only the first slot is seen.
If I see in the BIOS it reports only 4GB and not 8GB.
I’ve update the bios at the latest (A11) but I can see only the first slot of memory.
Can my VOSTRO 2520 upgraded to 8 GB?
Should be but I can’t find the way !!!
Please help me.
Thanks for your support.

Crucial says 8 gb is supported. You must be running 64 bit windows to take advantage of 8 gb. Reseat the the chips and test again. Then try switching the 2 chips and then test then try one chip at a time in each slot. You need either of these types of matching memory-- DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-14900. How the chips are installed can affect the results. Make sure to follow the instructions exactly.

I have the same prolem with the A11 update on the BIOS, trying to Downgrade back to A10.
Both of my Memory sticks are good, I suspect my second slot is good yoo, must be a bug in A11 from AMBIOS
Mine is a DELL Inspirom 660 - the ONLY thing, I did NOT do or aware is - Did thenprevious version pf BIOS sees all of mine [ 2 X 4 ] Gigs of ram?

Important question: Do know if BIOS saw all 8 GB of RAM before you updated to A11?

First of all THANKS for your reply.
Well this is the sequence of my tries:
I’ve start with A6 BIOS
The two RAM sticks work for sure both. If I put the Stick1 or the stick 2 in the first slot it work.
The second slot is not read
Then I’ve upgraded to A11 BIOS and the problem is still present
Where I can fiand the A10 downgrade BIOS?
Many many thans

If I understand your posts, the second slot didn't work with BIOS A06, so it's not likely that upgrading to A11 or back to A10 is going to solve this problem.
You have a motherboard failure if both RAM modules are recognized in slot 1 but not slot 2. If the system is under warranty, you should contact Dell Tech Support ASAP for assistance and motherboard replacement.
If it's not under warranty, you'll have to buy and replace the motherboard, or take it to a PC shop to do the work. But only you can decide if it's worth putting money into this system. A number of suppliers sell OEM parts for Dell PCs, so shop around for the motherboard.
You can also contact Dell Spare Parts to get a price for a new board and compare that with what you can find elsewhere. Have the Service Tag handy if you contact Dell Spare Parts.
NOTE: It's frequently difficult to install a non-Dell board in a Dell case because the front panel wiring is usually customized by Dell. You might want to consider buying a new case and motherboard that accept's the CPU in this system and move the CPU, drives, RAM etc over to the new system, which might work out to be less expensive than a whole new PC. You'll also have to purchase a new license for Windows because Dell's Reinstallation disk won't allow you to install Windows with a non-Dell motherboard.

- Depends on how much the MO supports, another alternative , I am consider is to Maximize the memory on Slot 1 with a 8 GB stick , any way, if NOT using memory Intensive programs, 4 GB , I think most users can get away with for a X64 system, and sell the 4 GB on ebay.....LOL

Thanks- I won't buy a new MO, my System is about 14 months old, wish I knew it 3 or 4 month back.
The most Memory or Resource Intensive program, that I will running so far will be CovertXto DVD, luckily I am NOT a Gamer........LOL

The max size RAM module per slot is 4GB for a total of 8GB supported RAM (eg, 2x 4GB). So you can't put an 8GB stick in slot 1. It probably won't boot with an 8GB stick installed.
And DDR3 RAM works best when installed as matched pairs so using only one module means performance will suffer.
If either of you have some compatible 2GB RAM modules around, it might be interesting to see if slot 2 recognizes a 2GB module but not a 4GB module.
But again, if the system is under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support for repair.
