Dell XPS 710 won't turn on.
Hey all. About 3 months ago, I upgraded the RAM on my computer from 2x1GB to 2x2GB RAM. So far, everything has worked fine. Every now and again (roughly once a week) my computer would freeze on me, even though this is nothing new (happened before new RAM). The other day, I left my computer to go to sleep/hibernate, and as sometimes happens, it didn't go all the way into hibernate. Instead, it sat in limbo between sleep and hibernate all night. So I manually powered the computer down (held power button for a few seconds), then tried to turn it back on. From that point on, all I've been able to get it to do is start to power up, to the point where the fan is running on high. The light comes on in front, but gives me no diagnostic numbers, just the network link light. I get no connection to the monitor (there's nothing wrong there though), so no POST or BIOS or w/e.
I've tried pulling the computer out, opening it up, and reseating everything, to no avail.
Has anyone here had this problem before, or have any idea as to what might be wrong?

Quick question for anyone in the know, where do I find the aforementioned Dell parts? I tried putting in a search for the part numbers on the Dell website, and it didn't come up with anything. When I try googling the parts, I get a bunch of websites that don't list prices and/or are out of stock for the items.

I would suggest try calling Dell spare parts. Being how old it was when the parts were made and stocked they could very well be non existent

No problem. I had been a 700/720 user from the very beginning and only retired mine last year and built my own. Was a great system design although suffered from all the proprietary parts.

Considering the case is designed for a BTX type mother board and all components are built around that you can guess the answer to your question. you would need a home made back plane adapter, and mother board tray and front panel interface. I think you can see where I'm going with this.. :emotion-4:

I'll try that. If that turns out to be the case, it might be that I will have to go and do the tower/power supply/motherboard conversion to something non-Dell. Though that'll probably be just as much a pain in the rear lol.

Check if some of wiring is loose behind the "power on button". On my 710 when powering up from the "off" state (not a reboot) the fan would go on high for a second ... then everything off except an amber led inside the case towards the back. No bios prompt, nothing. After playing with the wiring behind the power on button (unplug main power cable): bingo, everything back to normal.
