Dell XPS 8500 PSU

Alright, so I have a Dell XPS 8500 and I wannt upgrade my GPU. I just need to upgrade my PSU. So I have a few small questions.

A. What are the dimensions of the PSU that comes with it.

According to this site:  http://www.911forpcs.com/xps-8500.html

they are 6.00" X 3.25" X 5.5"(WxHxD). I want to verify that it's true.

B. I was looking for a 750w PSU, I know I won't need THAT much but I like to have some extra. So my other question is can anyone suggest me a PSU that will fit the XPS 8500 PSU dimensions.

I have 2 that caught my eye but im not 100% sure if the dimensions would fit properly.

EVGA SuperNOVA 750

I assume the EVGA won't fit due to the Length being too long.

Well I did not verify the dimensions of the original PSU because I seem to have lost my tape measurer nor do I have a ruler around at the moment but I was able to get this power supply to fit in just fine.

Enough length to fit in properly, not too close to the motherboard height wise and length wise fits in properly too. Have the extra cords ziptied and tucked under my CD drive as best as I can.

I'll post back in here and i'll edit my OP with the dimensions of the original PSU when I find my tape measurer or get a ruler.

Hi Exmix,

There have been a lot of discussions on these boards about power supply upgrade options for the XPS 8500. Take a look at those. You should pay attention to the graphics card recommendations since many of them do not require a PSU upgrade.

Also, since you already own an XPS 8500, you should be able to directly measure the dimensions of your power supply.

Hi Osprey4,

Yeah i've seen alot of them but some of them were ab it outdated. Im going for a GTX 770 GPU, which its miniumum recommeneded is 600w, but I do know i can go lower since thats the minimum recommonded, not required. But it required a 6pin and a 6+2 pin cable. The one PSU the XPS 8500 comes with only has a 2x 6pin. So I did want an upgrade. I know what im after is more than needed. I've done plenty of research and looking around. im more just looking for confirmation that this PSU would fit the dimensions of the current PSU so I don't have to go through trouble of sending it back and such. I'm 99% sure it will fit fine.

Did you verify the dimensions of your power supply? All you need is a ruler.
