Dell XPS GEN 5 BIOS update question.

I updated my BIOS on my Dell XPS GEN 5 and I currently have a Pentium 4, 3.2 ghz processors.  I nocited this upate says it supports new CPU's and that under my BIOS I have a option to turn on Support Multiple processors, ON/OFF.  Currently set on OFF.

I was wondering since my proccessor is a LGA775 socket will it support the thse processors since this are the LGA 775 socket.  Please someone confirm that if I can upgrade my processor.

Update:  The reason I want to upgrade is because of the gaming.  I was reading through the boards and it says that it only support Pentium D.  And the best Pentium D I can get is a 3.4-3.7ghz.  Is this even worth a upgrade?  I think remember reading long time ago that Pentium D is not good for gaming application.  Is this true?

Core 2 Duo  Core 2 Extreme  Core 2 Quad Dual-Core

Here is the update I downloaded for my Dell XPS Gen 5 system.

Release Title: BIOS: Dell Dimension System BIOS, English, Dimension XPS (Gen 5), A04

Fixes and Enhancements The following changes have been made to BIOS rev A03 to create A04:

1. Add support for newer CPUs
2. Add new CPU logos
3. Improve flash functionality
4. Improve help text for some setup options
5. Update PXE for Broadcom 5751 to 8.2.5
6. Improve PCI Bus resource reservations for USB 2.0 and ACPI
7. Enable memory remapping code to allow more memory for the operating
system.

While they still use the same socket type as what you've got in there, I'm not sure if the Core series of processors will work properly on your Gen 5 because Intel stopped making processors that support the Intel 955x Express Chipset that's in there after their Intel® Pentium® D Processor 960 (3.60 GHz). The best one their site shows as being compatible with your chipset is the Intel® Pentium® D Processor 950 (3.4 GHz).

Here is a comparison between the processor I think you have and the 950 - not a huge improvement.

Getting a processor that isn't rated for your chipset MAY work, or it may not. If you can get a 30-day return, go for the best processor you think you can get and try it out and see, but I'd say if you're looking for better gaming, you might want to consider saving your cash for a new system.

Hey thanks for the response and help.  I really appreciate it.  Another question.

Would it be worth it to upgrade.  I have a P4 3.2ghz.

To a:
Which would benfit me for gaming.

Pentium 4 3.8ghz $139.99

Intel Pentium D 3.4ghz $229.99 (I dont know if I read this somewhere but is Pentium D not good for gaming?)

and will a Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.74 (If I can find one) work with my motherboard?  I think I remember seeing this option when customizing my computer long time ago.  I noticed it running at 1066mhz front side bus.  Will I be running at that bus speed if I do get a P4 ED?

Please help.  Thanks again!
