Dell Xps 420 Sound/Microphone issues

Hi i purchased a dell XPS 420 about 4 years ago. And i recently decided to upgrade my computer from vista to windows 7. only to find out that i can't use my microphone when the windows 7 was installed. I can use my headset perfectly well but not the microphone. i have tried to install the audiodrivers that is recommended on the dell driver page. but it says that driver i am installing doesn't match with my hardware. And i do not know what sound board i have. Though, when i look in the computer i can see that my sound board seems to be as one with the motherboard. Please help me, i am not good at this computer stuff, and i am about to go cry in the corner because of this. I have tried to find out what my sound card is called, but i can't see it anywhere.

Please help a costumer in need, i am desprate.

Hi Maltoft,

You can find your audio device in device manager.

What is the headset? Is it USB or what?

The solution for VISTA was to go in and delete all of the drivers. Go to control panel>System and Maintenance>Device Manager>Sound and Video Game Controllers> Then uninstall all the drivers in this category including the Blue Tooth Hands Free Audio and Blue Tooth Stereo Audio and the High Definition Audio Device.

Next plug microphone into front jack of the Dell XPS 420.

Next restart computer while connected to internet.  In my case the drivers were properly loaded and the microphone worked for the first time in 4 years.

Good luck
